Frances Jane Carey

Carey, Frances Jane née Stafford, c.1754—1860

Frances Jane Stafford, later Carey, was the daughter of the Rev. James Stafford. She married Peter James Carey (b. 1759) with whom she had a son, Sir Peter Stafford Carey (1803-1886). She first visited Paris during the Peace of Amiens in 1802, and returned after the end of the Napoleonic wars, the period covered by her Journal of a Tour (1823). Her only other work appears to have been A Slight Sketch of the Life and Character of Joan d’Arc (1836). She died on the island of Guernsey in 1860 at the age of 94.
